Daunton, Th.D., former rector of Christ Episcopal Church in Los Altos died at his home in Los Altos on May 15 of Lou Gehrig's disease (ALS). He was 74.He was born in Bristol, England and studied classics and theology at Oxford University. In 1947, Dr. Daunton came to the U. S. to study at Princeton Theological Seminary where he received a degree and then came to Berkeley to teach at the Church Divinity School of the Pacific. He was ordained to the Episcopal priesthood in 1950 and served as Rector of several Episcopal parishes in the Bay Area, including the Christ Episcopal Church in Los Altos. He was a gifted linguist, fluent in French, Italian and Spanish. He and his wife traveled extensively throughout the world having a particular interest in third-world countries and archeological sites. Dr. Daunton is survived by his wife, Nancy; his brother David; his sister Elizabeth; a niece Anthea and a nephew Nigel. A memorial service was held May 20 at Christ Episcopal Church in Los Altos.
