"We are pleased to be working with the schools to educate students about recycling," said Amy Aitken, Recycling Coordinator for LAGCo. "Since the phone books are 100 percent recyclable, this is a great opportunity to collect books that may otherwise end up in the landfill." Participating schools include St. Simon's, Waldorf School, Los Altos Christian, Miramonte, Canterbury Christian, Almond, Loyola, Oak and Santa Rita in Los Altos; St. Nicholas and Bullis Purissima in Los Altos Hills; and Corte Madera and Ormondale in Portola Valley. Students can drop off old books in specially designated toters which LAGCo will pick up for recycling. Pacific Bell directories are 100% recyclable and contain soy- based ink and water-soluble glue. They can be recycled into new phone books, ceiling tiles and insulation. LAGCo has also made recycling easy for community members by placing phone book recycling bins at the Los Altos Chamber of Commerce and Lucky's Supermarket.
