The delegates run for office, vote in elections and participate in mock city, county and state governments. One girl from each high school is eligible and over 500 girls from all over the state of California are expected to attend. According to the American Legion, the delegates are chosen for qualities of honesty, loyalty, interest in government and the ability to get along well with other girls. The delegates from local high schools are: Autumn Carter, Los Altos High School delegate. The daughter of Patricia Carter Hays and Rolland Hays of Mountain View, Autumn Carter has held many offices and leadership positions. She is active in church as a member of Youth Fellowship, and has served as treasurer and assistant chaplain. She is a member of the California Scholarship Federation and was a participant in the Miss Teen Scholarship Pageant. Her hobbies include singing, playing the flute and public speaking. Her long range goal is to attend Stanford University, and to become a psychiatrist. Anjali Murthy, Mountain View High School delegate The daughter of Malati and Dr. Sreedhara Murthy of Mountain View, Anjali Murthy is a member of the District Board Representative, the Associated Student Body cabinet, California Scholarship Federation, the High School Accreditation Team and a State Board of Education semi-finalist. She is also the editor and news reporter for the Oracle, the school newspaper. She is the lead violinist in the El Camino Youth Symphony and a pianist and flutist Jennifer Childrey, St. Francis High School delegate The daughter of Betsy and Russell Childrey of Los Altos, Jennifer Childrey is a member of the California Scholarship Federation with high honors, a member of Students Against Drunk Driving, Service & Interact, the Environment, Voice of Hope and the Shakespeare Club. Her community activities include volunteering at the American Cancer Society and spending time assisting with patients at Agnews State Hospital |
