A double-barreled offering will fire the opening salvoes for the summer 1995 Fine Arts Performances at Foothill College on June 2. A multi-media dance extravaganza in the Robert Smithwick Theatre and the American classic "Our Town" in the Studio Theatre will both open that night at 8 p.m. This summer season the fine Arts and communications Division will concentrate on culminations from the drama, music and dance programs to present outstanding productions at modest prices.

"Bodies and Soul," created by Bubba Gong, director of dance, will feature 100 dancers surrounded by heart-thumping music and stunning laser effects. The entire dance gamut will be run, from tap to ballet, from ballroom to rap. Music will range from such contemporary works as those from Prince, "The Lion King" and "Dead Can Dance," as well as the full spectrum of Asian, African, Latin and American rhythms.

"Bodies and Soul" will play June 2, 3 and 10 at 8 p.m. in the Robert Smithwick Theatre, Foothill College. Tickets are $15 general admission; $12, students and seniors; $10 children 12 and under. Bring four quarters for parking in student lots B and D.

"Our Town.," directed by Jay Manley, and presented by the Foothill College Theatre Conservatory, will play Thursday to Sunday from June 2-18 in the Studio Theatre. Thornton Wilder's 'Our Town" won the Pulitzer Prize and its enduring popularity is a testament to its power, humor and beauty. Critics have called it one of the sagest, warmest and most deeply human scripts to have come out of the American theatre.

Performances are Friday, June 2, 9; Saturday, June 3, 10, 17; Thursday, June 8, and 15, all at 8 p.m. Sunday matinees are June 4, 11, and 18 at 2:30 p.m. at Foothill's Studio Theatre. Tickets are $9, general admission; $8, students and seniors; $7, children under 12. Bring four quarters for parking in student lots B and D.

Other standouts in the Foothill College summer lineup are "The Most Happy Fella," playing two late July weekends and again in August. Musical treats include the Fanfairwell concert on June 13; featuring the Fanfairs, Jazz Singers and vocalists from the Wendy MacBain Trio; a Fathers Day All American Band Concert from the Symphonic Wind Ensemble on June 18 and the Chamber Singers Bon Voyage Concert on June 23.

The summer 1995 Fine Arts Performances at Foothill College are supported by donations from Foothill President Emeritus Thomas H. Clements and his wife Shirley, as well as the Chevron Corporation and the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation.
