The Los Altos Sunset Rotary Club has contributed $500 to help Russian student Vladimir Senkin continue his remarkable progress at Santa Clara University.

Senkin came to the attention of a number of Rotarians when he attended Los Gatos High School as a Rotary Youth Exchange student. He expressed a desire to study business at an American university so he could return to Russia and enter the banking field.

The Rotary clubs took the lead in assuring he would have the financial assistance he needed to complete his course of studies.

To date, the Rotary clubs of Cupertino, Freedom, San Jose East and Saratoga have all contributed to defray his college expenses, with grants between $500 and $5,000.

Senkin is now thriving at Santa Clara University. He has a 3.60 cumulative grade point average as a finance major, and is on the Dean's List. He has taken a heavy academic load and will complete all requirements for graduation by age 20: that's two quarters early.

Given the scholarship assistance the university provides, plus the Rotary assistance and his probable future earnings, Senkin needs about $8,500 in additional scholarship money to help to complete his education at Santa Clara.
