These games have been held annually for 6-18 year-olds who are physically handicapped. The games will be played on the athletic fields of De Anza College from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.About 500 boys and girls from 30 schools are registered to compete in short track events, slaloms, obstacle courses, and specially designed games like bean bag toss, skittle bowl, hit the can, and softball and Frisbee throws. The students are placed in groups with similar abilities and separated into wheel chair, walker, etc. Last year over 500 students participated. All participants will receive a T shirt and participation ribbons. Ribbons will be awarded to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place finishers in every heat and event. Volunteers can drop in and are welcome to help with the event. Last year over 190 Kiwanians and 130 Kiwanis youth members builders clubs formed the nucleus of the volunteers. De Anza College is a wheel chair accessible facility. The coordinator at De Anza College for the adaptive PE faculty is Dr. Tom Beggs. |
