Research made easier at the Los Altos Main Library

New library catalog features at the Los Altos Main Library allows users to obtain abstracts and full text of magazine articles through an Internet database. Users can also review their own library records.

Improved access to magazines is available through InfoTrac 2000, a computerized database. It includes indexing and abstracts for more than 800 magazines and full text for more than 400 magazines. Special health and business databases offer a variety of current materials. Infotrac 2000 has a EasyTrac search mode for the beginning user, and PowerTrac search mode for the advanced user.

After you choose your own PIN (personal identification number), you may review your own library record. You can check on items being held for you, items checked out to your account, fines and fees you owe, and holds that you have placed. When you wish to review your own library record or place a hold, you will need a library card number and a PIN. This ensures security and privacy.

All these new features are also available from your home computer if you have a modem. The Dialpac number is (408) 287-5590. There is no long distance charge from Los Altos phone numbers.

Specially-trained volunteer docents and handouts will help you explore the new catalog features.

The Los Altos Main Library is located at 13 N. San Antonio Road, next to Los Altos City Hall. For more information, call 948-7412.
