Los Altos resident Eugene Hyman looks good in a black robe.

Hyman, currently a municipal court judge for Santa Clara County will be seeking a seat on the Superior Court bench in the March 1996 election.

Hyman, who has lived in Los Altos five years, was appointed to his seat as a municipal court judge in 1990 by then Gov. George Dukemajen.

Hyman said he is "very involved in his profession," and calls himself a workaholic who doesn't have time to go to meetings. With campaign preparations looming overhead, the added stress will be an "incredible increase in his load of work," but he is looking forward to meeting potential constituents.

"The only downside to campaigning is the money," he said. "I don't like asking people for money."

His platform for the upcoming campaign is working toward "helping families to be families." He said he is particularly interested in domestic violence issues.

"It was coming up before me on a regular basis," he said. "I needed to understand the issues to do meaningful sentencing. That started the discovery process."

Hyman cites domestic violence as his "most important issue" because it is the root of other problems. "It relates to other issues like alcohol and child abuse," he said. "The family is just so important."

Hyman said he also plans to examine a streamlining of the administration of justice. "I desire to examine how we are doing things and to see if we can do them in a different way," he said. "Especially when it comes to family law."

A committee is currently being formed to work on his campaign. "I hope to be doing some public speaking," Hyman said. "I plan to make myself available."

Hyman said he enjoys living close to downtown Los Altos. "It is a great place to window shop while you are walking your dog," he said. "It's a friendly town."

Hyman graduated from Santa Clara University School of Law, was in private practice for 11 years as a lawyer and spent the last five years on the Municipal Court Bench. "I'd be happy to get on the Superior Court and stay there," he said.
