printer friendly version Print this story

A "Bike Safety Day" in preparation for the upcoming Los Altos Arts and Wine Festival, is scheduled 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 25 in plaza north off of San Antonio Road (behind the Los Altos Bar & Grill rescaurant).

This first-time safety event for residents is sponsored by the Los Altos Village Association (LAVA), Valley Cyclery and the Los Altos Police Department. Police officer Matt Hartley, who holds the newly formed position of bicycle pedestrian safety officer, will assist in hosting the event. Downtown's Valley Cyclery, 395 First St., will be giving away free water bottles to all attendees that day and will host a raffle to win a new mongoose mountain bike.

Highlighting the day's activities will feature bike safety checks, with safety instructions and pamphlets as well as an active bike rodeo. Hartley will educate the public on the safest bicycle routes throughout the city as well as on festival weekend, and alert residents to current safety laws for cyclists.

New this year to all arts and wine festival goers is the bike valet area, which will be on Third Street. Bikers will be able to park their bikes for the day for $1 the weekend of the festival.
