The property at 220 University Ave. is where the town crossroads and a railroad stop once existed. The estate, now 70-years-old, was recently sold and the property is presently in three parcels. The buyers want to return the grounds to their original park-like setting and wish to bring all the properties into the town of Los Altos. The dividing line between the two cities at this junction is Adobe Creek. Early photographs and horticultural maps show a dance floor over the creek, bridges, a fish grotto, bocca ball and croquet courts and over 70 species of trees and plantings. The request for a lot line change will create a different sized parcel and the request for de-annexation and annexation will be referred to LAFCO. (Local Agency Formation at the County level) LAH budget review The proposed operating budget contains numerous department changes in the allocation of the 95/96 budget. Parts of the budget are:
increase in labor costs of 43 percent, the results of a three month overlap of the finance officer position and an upgrading of the position responsibilities.
the Town's policies and a decrease in ABAG's equity distribution.
time and the addition of line items such as garbage pickup and street striping. Also two new full-time positions are included in the budget. The city manager's budget reflects an 18 percent decrease in the overalll budget with a 28 percent decrease in labor. This is due to the new city manager also filling the role of city engineer. The final budget will be adopted at the June 21 council meeting. Vacancies on Planning Commission The terms of Emily Chan and Steve Finn expire June 30 and the city clerk is accepting volunteers to be appointed to the planning commission at the July 5 city council meeting. The planning commission is a seven member body that determines the best and highest land uses and recommends their results to the City Council for action. - Clyde Noel |
