English instructor Dan Mindich, who has taught at Los Altos High School for the past four years, has been selected by students as staff member of the month. After completing his undergraduate degree at Vassar, he spent a year and a half teaching at a rural school in Kenya. Mindich then attended the Stanford Teacher Education Program and earned his master's degree in education. He student taught at Mountain View High School.

In 1991 Mindich came to Los altos High School. In addition to teaching English, he has been coordinator of the Multicultural Program for four years. "Los Altos High School is the perfect school to teach - it has an incredible diversity of students and is a place that has its share of problems but a very high level of success in solving them," Mindich said.

He said that LAHS students have had a broad range of experiences and have friendly attitudes, making the school a desirable place to be. For two years he has been the coordinator of Writers Week on campus and has assisted in coaching frosh/soph football and rugby.

During his spare time, Dan enjoys rugby, playing the banjo, correcting papers and spending time with his fiancee. Mindich said he is sorry to be leaving LAHS, but he is looking forward to his marriage this summer. He will join his wife in either Vermont or New York City where she will attend medical school.
