Los Altos on Internet with new 'Home Page'

printer friendly version Print this story

Joining the scramble of dozens of other cities to have a presence on the cyber-superhighway, Los Altos is now on board with its own Home Page on the Internet World Wide Web.

With most of the information still "under construction," the new Home Page opens with a large color logo that says "Los Altos Online" in old English text with an added line of type that says "Everything You Want To Know About Los Altos, California." Well, almost.

Under the aegis of the Town Crier, organizations and businesses in Los Altos can now develop their own Home Page at low or no cost.

By clicking on small graphic screens representing different organizations, a viewer can reach more information about each entity. It will now be possible for city government, schools, community organizations, service clubs and businesses to develop a "home page" under the "Los Altos Online" umbrella.

Organizations and individuals will also be able to get their own e-mail address by this means.

Currently, the Town Crier has several recent issues on the net that can be browsed as text. Eventually, photos will be added, as well as classified ads. Access to the Internet is being provided by BayNet World, Inc. of Mountain View.

More than 35 million world wide members of Internet can see Los Altos Online! The URL address: http://www.baynet.com/latc.

Organizations or businesses interested joining the "rush to the net" can call the Town Crier at 948-9000, ext. 311, for more information.
