Junior Girl Scout troop earns service award

printer friendly version Print this story

Los Altos Junior Girl Scout Troop 1084 earned the "Rainbow of Service" award from the Santa Clara Country Girl Scout Council for the second year in a row, in recognition of its ongoing service to the community. This year, from November through May, the 13 sixth graders worked regularly in the food and clothes closets of the Community Services Agency of Mountain View and Los Altos, sorting donations twice a month as after-school volunteers. Troop members also amplified their efforts by bringing individual donations and by making a contribution from their treasury to support CSA's programs for the poor and homeless.

In addition to their work at CSA, members of Troop 1084 volunteered their time in numerous projects sponsored by the Loyola School PTA: providing child care at the annual blood drive, helping to inventory emergency supplies, and gathering food and toy contributions during the holiday collection drives.

Troop members Stephanie Chen, Andrea Corsino, Anita Field, Lindsay Green, Melanie Hsia, Diana Lee, Carolyn Nohejl, Claire Pomeroy, Jan Renaud, Krista Shoquist, Shellie Weisfield, and Lauren White (all from Loyola) and Julia Balster of St. Joseph Catholic School have been recognized by the Loyola PTA for their contributions.

The Junior Girl Scouts received their award from leaders Corinne Nohejl and Clare Novak at their final meeting June 5 at the Los Altos United Methodist Church.
