A summer full of song, camping at Hidden Villa

Hidden Villa, a 1,600-acre wilderness preserve and farm located near Los Altos Hills, celebrates its inaugural "Summer Weekends at Hidden Villa" program with a special outdoor performance of Mexican dances and songs by Alegr'a de San José at 6 p.m. on Saturday.

Alegr'a de expression of Mexican folk culture is one of several theme weekends and activities Hidden Villa will over the public during most weekends through Aug. 20. Other weekends activities scheduled for this summer include:

  • Frontier Days with Mountain Man Raye Girouard on July 15;
  • Hidden Villa Celebrates African Cultures on July 22;
  • Hidden Villa Celebrates Native-American Cultures on Aug. 5;
  • Hidden Villa Celebrates the Great Outdoors on Aug. 19;
  • Special Guided Farm Tours on the following Sundays: June 18, July 2, 16 and 23, and Aug. 6 and 20 at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. (programs are subject to change).

The cost for attending Alegr'a performance is $8 for adults and $5 for children. A special $22 family-of-four rate is also available. Call 949-8653 for more information or to make your reservations, which are required for all programs. Hidden Villa is located at 26870 Moody Road, in Los Altos Hills.

Hidden Villa youth camp programs will be provided exclusive weekday access to Hidden Villa during the summer. Hidden Villa will also be limited to camp use the following weekends: July 8-9, July 29-30 and Aug. 12-13.

Visitors to Hidden Villa may purchase annual passes (good until January 1, 1997) for $40 or simply pay day-use parking fees of $5 per car per visit. Student and low-income annual passes are $20. To purchase a pass, call 949-8655. Parking fees are waived for visitors taking part in Hidden Villa performances.

Hidden Villa, a gift to the Bay Area from the Duveneck Family, is a non-profit farm and wilderness preserve dedicated to teaching both social and environmental values in a multicultural setting. Ongoing programs include a multicultural summer camp, environmental education, organic gardens and a hostel, as well as interactive performances and community events.
