CSMA jazzes up the summer

Community School of Music & Arts will get Mountain View rockin' this month with jazz classes and concerts.

The summer jazz program, which begins today and runs through Aug. 22, offers combos, theory and appreciation, Escola de Samba and week-long camps for teens. All ages, instruments and levels of experience are welcome.

Featured artists for the Saturday afternoon shows are:

July 15 - pianist Mark Levine and saxophonist Harvey Wainapel, "The Art of Collective Improvisation."

July 22 - pianist Dee Spencer and vocalist/guitarist Lady Bo, "Women's Views of the Blues."

July 29 - pianist Rebeca Mauleon and percussionist John Santos, "Cruisin' the Caribbean."

Concerts run from 2-3 p.m. and are followed by a masterclass from 3-5 p.m. Tickets are $7/event, $20/series for concerts; $30/event, $80/series for both.
