Decisions on what to do with the former St. William's School site, at Covington Road and El Monte Avenue, will be discussed over the next five-to-eight months at Los Altos Parks and Recreation Commission meetings.

The Parks and Recreation Commission will hold its first meeting today at 7 p.m. at City Hall, 1 N. San Antonio Road. The meeting will inclue discussion of city plans to preserve the gymnasium building for public recreational activities. The main purpose of the meeting is to give the community an "opportunity to consider the use of the building for Parks and Recreation," said Bob Rayl, the city's park planner and recreation director.

If the department gets the school gymnasium, Rayl said the city would no longer have to rent gymnasiums from the Los Altos Elementary School District and Los Altos High School District. "We're limited because of their sports programs," Rayl said.

"It would provide more opportunity for the community to have recreation activities in a gymnasium setting," Rayl said. For those who are unable to attend, written comments are welcome. Written correspondence regarding the recreation issues can be mailed to Los Altos Parks and Recreation Commission, 97 Hillview Ave., Los Altos 94022.
