The pervious week, Cann presented a $6,000 check to City of Los Altos representatives to help purchase a dog for the police canine corps. Grants by the foundation from the Rotary's annual Los Altos Art Show profits since 1985 are now beyond the $250,000 mark, Cann said. Recipients are principally in the communities of Los Altos and Mountain View, and more recently, East Palo Alto. During the year Cann has been president of LAREF, $34,305 has been given to qualified charitable community organizations. Since 1985, more than 80 different organizations have been awarded grants, Cann said, including: 38 scholarships totaling $57,000; YMCA Capital Fund, $15,000; Community Services Agency, $12,150; Community Health Awareness, $11,000; Rotary AIDS Project, $10,000; and the Mountain View-Los Altos Education Foundation, $8,500. - Clyde Noel |
