With the 50th anniversary of Japan's surrender around the corner, the Town Crier is sponsoring a special tribute to Los Altos-area World War II veterans at the Aug. 12 Coffee Klatch. The klatches, 8:30-10 a.m. every Saturday, are co-sponsored by the Bank of Los Altos, and held in the Community Plaza, at the intersection of State and Main streets, in downtown Los Altos.

The event offers the opportunity for the community to say a belated thank-you to veterans for service. The klatch also will feature 1940s Hit Parade music.

If you are a veteran, or know of someone who is, call Paul Nyberg at 948-9000, ext. 311.Sponsored by the Town Crier and the Bank of Los Altos, the coffee klatches give residents an opportunity to enjoy conversation, coffee, pastries and music in a pleasant outdoor setting. This Saturday's coffee klatch offers a salute to Stanford University alumni with music from the Banjo Band. Coffee and pastries for Saturday's event will be served up by Suzanne's Muffins.

The Aug. 5 coffee klatch will pay tribute to Stanford University alumni and feature coffee and pastries from Suzanne's Muffins.
