Voters approved the $58 million bond measure last June. Community leaders Hugh Bikle, David Boyd, Bob Grimm, Sid Hubbard and David Jury, all experts in the fields of construction and finance, have volunteered to serve on the Commission and will meet in ongoing public sessions throughout the construction period. The district will also hire a full-time director of renovation and construction to act as a liaison between the district, the Construction Overview Commission and the public. The director will oversee construction management, including architectural consultants, and will be responsible for facilitating the construction process. "The High School Construction Committee was very supportive of allocating funds for effective project management. We feel this is a cost-effective way to protect our community's investment," Superintendent Don Phillips said. Although the Board of Trustees has final approval on all aspects of the construction project, the director will help organize and coordinate efforts at both sites to free district staff time. "Our staff's expertise rests in educational instruction, not in construction," Phillips said. "The combination of a Construction Overview Commission to oversee a cost-effective project and a director to focus efforts and work as a liaison will help keep our district personnel focused on our educational mission of ensuring a world-class education for each student." Although full-time, the director will be a temporary position extending for the life of the construction period. District staff plan to choose a director before the school year starts in September. All Construction Overview Commission meetings are open to the public. For more information, call 940-4650. |
