The council authorized staff to open bidding to construction firms to do the repair work. The bid opening is scheduled for Aug. 30 and recommendations for awarding the contract will be made by the council Sept. 6. The proposed streets for repair and overlay and the estimated costs are:

City Manager Jeff Peterson said street drainage on Magdalena Road is especially in need of improvement. "This year we will just patch the street and then do a complete overhaul in 1996," he said. Mayor William Siegel suggested Prospect Road be included since it is bumpy from recent housing developments on the street. "I believe the streets our residents use should take precedence over streets that lead out of town," Siegel said. Council member Toni Casey suggested that Ravensbury Avenue be included because of the drainage problem on the street. Peterson said "To do a smooth overlay costs the city about 50 cents per square foot where a patch job costs about $4 a square foot. To do all the requests, the council is suggesting would require upping the budget $100,000 for street repair. According to state law, the city clerk will request sealed bids for the construction. |
