California Water Service Company raising water rates in Los Altos

The California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) granted the California Water Service Company (CWS) a three-year rate increase for the Los Altos district, which will translate to minimal increases for Los Altos-area residents.

Construction shouldn't sway State St. shoppers

When the city announced plans to repave State Street, reaction among the business community was not nearly as confrontational. Most seemed to be greatly in favor of the work, while those opposed made their feelings felt but didn't form splinter groups or seek litigation.

Lucile Rice

A native of San Jose, she was a graduate of San Jose State and a school teacher for 18 years at San Antonio School in Los Altos. When she retired from teaching, she and her husband Wally Stanley opened a hardware store and gift shop. Several years later they opened a gift store at Rancho Shopping Center called "Luciles."

Mr. Doran was a regional vice president for McDonald's Corp. He previously served as a 1st Lt. in the Corps of Engineers during the Vietnam War and was a U.S. Forest Service Ranger in McCall, Idaho. Among his many accomplishments and joys in life was campaigning his Formula Ford racing at tracks across the U.S.
