Lucile Rice

Lucile Rice, of Rough and Ready, died July 21 in Grass Valley. She was 89.

A native of San Jose, she was a graduate of San Jose State and a school teacher for 18 years at San Antonio School in Los Altos. When she retired from teaching, she and her husband Wally Stanley opened a hardware store and gift shop. Several years later they opened a gift store at Rancho Shopping Center called "Luciles."

A fifty plus year member of Eastern Star, she was past matron in 1945 and a member of the Nevada City Chapter Evangeline No.9. She moved to Rough and Ready with her husband in 1956. When her husband passed away she later married Lloyd Rice of Nevada City.

She is survived by her husband Lloyd Rice of Rough and Ready, and Bob Rice, Bonnie Ogden and Diane McCollum. Arrangements were made by Hooper and Weaver Mortuary of Nevada City.

At the request of the deceased, no services were held.
