She was 86.A graduate of the University of Illinois, she came to the Bay Area in 1959 to manage the University Club. She had previous hotel experience working at the U. S. Grant Hotel and the Hotel del Coronado in San Diego. In her 12 years at the University Club, she put the club back in the black and made it a happy place to be. She continued working for the American Red Cross, Gamma Phi alumnae and the Peninsula Volunteers at Little House. She became program manager in charge of leisure, recreation and social and educational services at the Little House. Ms. Brandon was honored by the Menlo Park Chamber of Commerce with an award for outstanding achievement and was on the board of the Chamber of Commerce from 1989 to 1993. She was awarded the Red Cross top honor - the Lydia Mitchell Lifetime Achievement Award. After moving to Pilgrim Haven in 1987, she attended Los Altos Senior Coordinating Council meetings and took part in Los Altos Senior Center activities. She is survived by three nieces, Carolyn Van Buskirk of Danville, Lois Harrison of Denver and Suzie Young in England; one nephew, Brad Kelly of Bartlesville, Okla.; and nine great nieces and nephews. Services were held Aug. 24 at Pilgrim Haven. The family prefers donations be made to a memorial fund in her name at the Palo Alto Chapter of the Red Cross. |
