Marine Private Sean J. Plunkett, of Mountain View, recently completed 11 weeks of intensive training for the Marine Corps. He is the son of Janessa J. Dabler of Mountain View.

Navy Ensign Daniel C. Hedrick, son of Carolyn Hedrick of Los Altos, recently graduated from the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md., and was commissioned at his present rank in the United States Navy. He is a 1990 graduate of Los Altos High School and will be stationed at the Naval Flight School in Pensacola, Fla.

Navy Ensign Edward R. Watkins, a 1990 graduate of St. Francis High School, graduated from the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md., and was commissioned at his present rank. His next duty station will be Naval Flight Officer's Training School in Pensacola, Fla.

Navy Chief Warrant Officer William R. Walsh, son of Anna M. and William R. Walsh Sr. of Mountain View, is currently serving on an overseas deployment to the Baltic Sea aboard the guided missile cruiser USS Philippine Sea.

Navy Petty Officer 2nd class Tida J. Peters, daughter of Roy D. Parker of Mountain View, completed a six-month overseas deployment aboard the destroyer tender USS Samuel Gompers with duty in the Persian Gulf.

Navy Seaman Recruit Michael R. Nafzgar, a 1994 graduate of Los Altos High School, completed the United States Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command in Great Lakes, Ill.

Navy Lt. Commander Jose L. Alvarez, a 1978 graduate of Mountain View High School, graduated from the Naval War College in Newport, R.I., and was awarded a master of arts degree in national security and strategic studies. Alvarez joined the Navy in 1982 and is a graduate of the Naval Academy with an engineering degree.

Navy Midshipman Mark A. Tompkins of Los Altos Hills graduated from the Naval Academy Preparatory School. He is a 1994 graduate of Gunn High School and is the son of Thomas L and Lydia R. Tompkins of Los Altos Hills.
