Playwright visits LAYT cast of 'Footloose'

Los Altos Youth Theatre's latest production of "Footloose" has been drawing raves, but cast members and crew hardly expected a personal visit from the playwright himself. So it was a pleasant surprise Aug. 24 when Academy Award winning screenwriter Dean Pitchford visited the group following a performance.

Pitchford, a member of the sold-out audience who enjoyed the production, saw his new play performed for the first time. He had nothing but praise for the actors and director Tom Carter. Carter called Pitchford up on stage at the end of the performance to be introduced.

Pitchford signed autographs and took time to talk with the young actors and actresses, individually and in groups, giving them feedback about their performances and roles.

Los Altos Youth Theatre members, who presented the West Coast premiere of "Footloose," have been excited about their work in this high-energy, contemporary stage musical adaptation of the movie.

The 50-member cast includes star Keith Pinto, who plays Ren. Pinto also choreographed the dance scenes.
