The Oct. 21, 1970 issue of the Town Crier reported Robin Faisant, a Los Altos Hills attorney, was singled out for the seventh annual Community Service Award by the Los Altos Board of Realtors.

In presenting the trophy and award, Realtors' Board President Marvin W. Lee said, "At age 39, Robin has already participated in more community activities than most men do in a lifetime."

Some of the organizations with which Faisant had been active were the United Fund, the local Chamber of Commerce, the Los Altos District of the Boy Scouts, the Palo Alto Chapter of the American Red Cross and the National and Sierra Club ski patrols.

Foothill Community College District trustees gave the go-ahead to the United Asians Club for reconstruction of the Japanese teahouse on the Foothill campus.

Many local businesses came to the aid of the club. Los Altos Nursery's Tom Furuichi offered to supervise the students' efforts. Los Altos Lumber and Supply donated shingles. Concrete blocks were contributed by McElroy Lumber. Larry Monus, a local plumber, promised to help with plumbing for the pond.

Calvin C. Flint, superintendent of the Foothill College District, asked the trustees to release him from his contract on June 30, 1971. The trustees accepted his resignation "with regrets."

The 64-year-old nationally recognized educator planned to travel, catch up on deferred reading and to garden.

50 Years Ago in the Los Altos News

The Oct. 18, 1945 issue of the Los Altos News reported adult education, in its second week at Mountain View High, had drawn a very good attendance. Sewing, crafts and shop classes were most popular, with typing, public speaking, folk dancing and health and recreation also off to an encouraging start. Child care was offered while parents attended classes.

The name of the Los Altos Business Association was changed to Los Altos Business Men's and Women's Association at a dinner meeting on Oct. 16, 1945.

The major topic of discussion concerned plans to build a new community center with a recreation hall for meetings, plays and other social activities, plus outside facilities for sports activities.

A veterans' benefit party was held Oct. 19, 1945 at the local Legion Hall. The event featured games, fellowship and refreshments. All funds realized were earmarked for the benefit of returned veterans.

Twenty Boy Scouts from Troop 37 undertook their first hike of the 1945-46 season, camping overnight at a location about two miles above Stevens Creek Dam.

The camp operated on a competitive patrol basis and Scoutmaster Warren Goodrich announced that Bill Eckert's Silver Patrol won the inspection award.
