The Villanova University (Penn.) players and St. Francis High graduates shined at last month's George Mason Tournament, in which the Wildcats finished second. In her best effort of the tourney, Evans, a sophomore middle blocker, notched 19 kills and 11 digs in a three-game win over the University of Oklahoma. For her excellent play, Evans was named to the All-Tournament team; it is the fourth time in her Villanova career that she has been selected to an All-Tournament squad. "It was great to see Stacy rise to the level of competition throughout the George Mason Tournament. She was dominant against Oklahoma," said Head Coach Ron Twomey. Jones, a freshman, also played well against Oklahoma, recording 17 digs, 12 assists, three blocks and three service aces. In the Big East Conference statistics released Sept. 25, she was fourth in defense with 138 digs and fifth in serving with 22 aces. "Elizabeth is playing phenomenal defense and is getting long service runs for us. She is literally killing people with her serve," Twomey said. Freshman Megan O'Brien, another former St. Francis High player, is first in the Big East and seventh nationwide in defense with 222 digs. |
