The successful curbside drive, which generated more than 10,000 pounds or 5 tons of food last year, will be held from Nov. 13 to Dec. 8 in Los Altos, Los Altos Hills and Mountain View. LAGCo and Foothill Disposal employees will collect new toys, games, books, canned goods and non-perishable food items curbside during the four week period on resident's regularly scheduled recycling day. "Helping others during the holidays is an important part of our commitment to the communities we serve," said Jon Angin, LAGCo general manager. "Our customers' generous response to the program last year brightened the holidays for many local families by providing much needed food as well as new bikes, stuffed animals and games." Flyers are currently being delivered to residents to introduce the program. Residents can simply put canned goods and toys in a bag, attach the flyer or mark the bag clearly with "Spirit of Sharing" and place the donation curbside next to their recyclables on recycling day. Special trucks will pickup the donations and deliver them to CSA in Mountain View for distribution within the local community. There is a particular need for items for teen-agers, including games, toys, books or bicycles. Bicycles and larger donations should be dropped off at Foothill Disposal in Mountain View at 935 Terra Bella Ave., located off Shoreline between 101 and Middlefield Road. Food donations should be canned, non-perishable items. No glass packaging will be accepted. Foods that are in short supply are canned meat and fish, canned milk, canned soups, vegetables and juices, rice, pasta, and peanut butter in plastic jars. All items must have their original labels. Organizers are hoping to surpass last year's outstanding results. "We hope residents will join us in helping those families who need extra support at this time of year," said Steve Fraguglia, Foothill Disposal general manager.
