The Preserve Partners program needs volunteers on the third Saturday of the month for trail maintenance, removing exotic plants and other projects to restore areas to their natural condition. Future projects are planned for Nov. 18. The District has docents who lead hikes and educate visitors about the natural wonders in the 41,000 acres of regional open space. These volunteers attend a comprehensive training program, then develop their own hikes in their areas of interest. The District needs outdoor nature education leaders to work with children in an environmental education program at Skyline Ridge Open Space Preserve. These volunteers will teach students about pond habitat, forest ecosystems and more. There are other volunteer opportunities available for anyone interested in helping to maintain and preserve regional open space. For more information, call 691-1200. |
