A Mountain View woman was critically injured as she stepped off the center divider at El Camino Real and Del Medio Avenue Oct. 27 at 7:03 p.m. in Los Altos.

Eleanor Frances, 64, may have been walking home when she was struck by a car, said Sgt. Bob Lacey of the Los Altos Police Department. No charges have been filed against the driver of the automobile.

Frances was taken to Stanford Hospital where she was in intensive care as of Friday.

She has multiple fractures and injuries, she is on a ventilator and her condition is critical, said a spokeswoman with the Stanford University Medical Center Office of Communications.

Los Altos recently received the AAA Pedestrian Safety Citation for a fatality-free pedestrian safety record for the 1994 calendar year. Liz Rouse, from AAA of California, presented the award to Mayor Bob Gray at the City Council meeting Oct. 10.
