Vernon R. 'Chick' Williams

Vernon R. "Chick" Williams, longtime Los Altos resident, died Oct. 17 at Idylwood Care Center in Sunnyvale. He was 94.

A native of Waukesha, Wis., he worked for Ford Motor Company in Denver, the South American Development Company in Ecuador and the Hawaiian Pineapple Company in San Francisco. A philanthropist dedicated to young people and their education, he established a chair of English at Carroll College (Waukesha) in memory of his mother and a scholarship at the University of Montana in memory of his late wife's parents.

He is survived by eight nieces and nephews and a godson.

He was interred with his wife, Ann, in a private service in Arnold, Calif.
