COLLEGE SCENE: In football, Foothill entertains Chabot 1 p.m. Saturday ... In women's basketball, Foothill hosts Santa Rosa 5 p.m. Tuesday.

SCHOLARSHIP CENTRAL: Could you win a college sports scholarship? You don't necessarily have to be a superstar to do it.

Penny Hastings is a mother who helped her son win a scholarship, then wrote a book about it. She'll be making a presentation from 7:30-9 p.m. Nov. 16 at Gunn High, 780 Arastradero Road, Room L14, in Palo Alto.

Admission is free - but donations are welcome - to this program sponsored by the Gunn Sports boosters.

SKI SALE: The De Anza College Ski & Snowboard Club holds its 17th annual sale from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday at the school's Hinson Campus Center, 21250 Stevens Creek Blvd. in Cupertino.

Event highlights will be free lift-ticket give-aways to Tahoe ski resorts and representatives on hand from Squaw Valley, Northstar, Donner, Borel and Alpine Meadows. For more information, call (408) 864-8429.

TRYOUT TIME: Solo Swim Club holds tryouts for girls and boys ages 5 and up 4 p.m. Nov. 17 at Burgess Pool, 501 Laurel St. in Menlo Park. Candidates must be able to swim the overarm crawl stroke with some proficiency.
