printer friendly version Print this story

A new Los Altos chapter of Beta Sigma Phi International Sorority was established during a candlelight ceremony at the home of Loretta Hickox on Oct. 1.

Beta Sigma Phi began in 1931 to help young women of that difficult period further their educational and social goals. Since then its goals of cultural, social and educational enrichment have remained. Philanthropic outreach has also become a major part of sorority activity. Major recipients of Beta Sigma Phi fund-raisers include the Stanford Kidney Research Foundation, Bay Area Lupus, Cystic Fibrosis, United Sclera Derma Foundation as well as many other local charities suported by individual chapters.

Members of the new chapter Delta Lamda Rho were sponsored in membership by Preceptor Nu Eta chapter also of Los Altos. The pledge ceremony was conducted by past chapter President Mary Weismann of Los Altos and assisted by current President Ramona Gaunt and other members of Preceptor Nu Eta.
