"We Realtors want to give back to the community where we do business," Sallie Morgan, chair for the Realtors food and clothing drive said. "We want to include our clients and friends to participate and feel the connection with the working poor and the newly unemployed." Realtors are gathering items that include disposable diapers, clothes and socks for both boys and girls, men's and women's undergarments, panty hose, pajamas, jackets, sweaters, trousers, women's "career" clothes and men's blazers. Community Services Agency will distribute those donations to people in need. "Each year we have new clients that are barely able to survive in this economy," said Louise Pahl, associate director of CSA. "This holiday food bag makes an enormous difference to them. They would not be able to celebrate Thanksgiving if the community and CSA had not formed this joint partnership." Realtors have also set a momentous task of gathering food for the Santa Claus Exchange and more immediate, since hunger doesn't take a vacation, the goal of feeding more than 400 families over Thanksgiving. Contributions of food and clothing can be delivered at any Real Estate Office in downtown Los Altos. If items need to picked up or any questions call 941-7040, ext. 230. Cash contributions are greatly appreciated and should be sent directly to Community Service Agency, 204 Stierlin Road, Mountain View 94043. Morgan said one of the things the Realtors are working on is creating a list of service people who are willing to donate their time and services to help needy residents with minor repair to their homes before the holidays. |
