An 8-by-8 space inside the multipurpose room is available for a $35 fee. For more information, call Cathy Zander at 941-7821. Holiday Faire at Blach school The Blach Intermediate School will hold its annual Holiday Faire on Dec. 8 from 12:30 to 4 p.m. at 1120 Coving ton Road. This year, more than 100 students will participate by selling merchandise and handmade gifts. The crafts available at this year's faire include jewelry, holiday ornaments, baked goods, tie-dye clothing, candles and home decorations. Each student decides what products to make as well as how to price and market them with signs and decorations. Students donate 10 percent of their earnings to the school. The Blach Holiday Faire is open to the public. Los Altos-Mountain View PTA look for new members Parent Teacher Associations nationwide are asking members of the community to join their local PTA to support their school. PTA groups focus on educational issues, as well as health, safety, parent education and legislation relating to school. Los Altos and Mountain View residents are invited to call any one of the following neighborhood schools - Almond, Blach, Bubb, Builis, Egan, Graham, Landels, Loyola, Monta Loma, Oak, Santa Rita, or Springer, and ask for the PTA Membership Chair to answer questions about what, when, where or how to become involved. Springer adopts reading programSpringer Elementary School in Mountain View has adopted the acclaimed "EVERYBODY WINS" reading program, a program where adults read one-on-one to children during their lunch hour. Adult volunteers spend one school lunch a half-hour per week with an individual child, reading for pleasure from good children's literature. The schedule is arranged and monitored by a school coordinator. Springer school is located at 1120 Rose Ave., in Mountain View. To volunteer or for more information, call 964-3374. Writing competition for high school seniors The Society for the Preservation of English Language and Literature (SPELL) has announced its 1995-96 Stephen J. Manhard Scholarship Essay Contest for high school seniors. A student must write an essay that supports SPELL's objectives of promoting better English. Winning essays will be published in Spell's bimonthly publication, SPELL/Binder. First prize is $500, second $300, and third $200. An undetermined amount of awards of $100 will be given as merited.
