Los Altos Post Office helps out during the holidays

printer friendly version Print this story

As a convenience for customers, the Los Altos Post Office will offer retail services from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. the next two Saturdays. For easy payment, the post office now accepts bank ATM cards and American Express, Discovery Card, Master Card and Visa credit cards for postage and most services. When mailing a package the post office suggests:
  • Use a corrugated cardboard box that is rigid. The post office sells several types at reasonable prices.

Make sure the contents are cushioned with newspaper or bubble wrap. Nothing should move around if you shake the package.

  • Don't warp the box with wrapping paper. Just seal the carton and use filament or heavy plastic sealing tape. Completely

surround the package at least once in each direction.

  • Use an indelible ink pen to address the parcel. Remember to include a return address in the upper left corner.
  • Insurance against loss or damage can be purchased for up to $600 for each parcel post or priority mail package sent.

The Los Altos Post Office is located at 100 First St.
