Gene West

Gene West, a native of West Virginia and a 21-year resident of Los Altos, died Nov. 28.

He served in the U.S. Marine Corps, and graduated from the University of Maryland School of Business Administration. Mr. West later earned a master's degree from American University.

He joined Consolidated Freightways in Menlo Park in 1961 and became known for fostering the trucking industry in Washington, D.C. He retired as senior vice-president of Consolidated Freightways, Inc., in 1988.

Mr. West is survived by his wife, Twink West, sons Gene, Jr. and David, a brother, Russell West, and grandchildren Cora, Russell, Charles and Devon West.

A memorial service was held at Valley Presbyterian Church in Portola Valley.

The family prefers a donation to Valley Presbyterian Church or the charity of their choice.
