They were married Dec. 23, 1945 in the Long Beach Navy Chapel while Mr. Peterson was still in service during World War II. Mr. Peterson retired from FMC Corp. in San Jose in 1977. Prior to that, he worked as an engineer at Westinghouse Electric Co.Mrs. Peterson did her student teaching at Hillview School in Los Altos and was employed by the Sunnyvale School System for 25 years. She founded the Sunnyvale History Docent program that provides local history instruction and hands-on experience for Sunnyvale School District classes for 13 years.As a local historian, she received many awards including a Mayoral Proclamation from Sunnyvale. She has taught history classes at DeAnza College History Center and for the Sunnyvale Parks and Recreation Department. They have resided in the area since 1948 and both are active with local conservation groups for many years. Their son, Bruce, resides in Aptos. |
