Principal Dr. David "Mickey Mouse" Brazer and Gordie "The Beast" Janowsky served as entertaining emcees for the evening, adorned in costumes of Mickey Mouse and The Beast, respectively.
The "loose" theme for the evening was a 40-year Celebration of Los Altos High School and Disneyland. Many of the evening's skits related to that theme, including the opening act of the Mickey Mouse/Los Altos High School Club where some 20 staff members donned Mouseketeer hats/ears and dressed either as "traditional" or "modern" (funky, abnormal clothing) mice.
Scarcely had the audience members recovered when they saw a whole troop of administrators and office staff standing behind a Brady Bunch-style grid singing about the "Brazer Bunch." Then there was also the ongoing skit about Snow White, where English teacher Sue Kefauver played the title role and was on an evening-long quest to find a teacher to sign her tardy slip to avoid Saturday School. Not only did the audience get a taste of the staff's humorous side, but it also saw some real talent. For example, Alden Peterson performed a Shakespeare scene; Vicki Christianson sang and played the bassoon; John Keller, Dean Cardulla and Teresa Dunlap performed three pieces where they sang and played guitar; Helene Quita demonstrated her incredible operatic voice; and Winnie Tseng and April Oliver performed a flute duet. The final act was a performance titled "Los Locos de Los Altos," where eight staff members performed a traditional Mexican dance.
Some 51 staff members performed 21 acts, and another dozen or so helped out behind the scenes in areas such as ticket sales and the bake sale. Follies coordinator, Margaret Bennett, and a committee of seven teachers helped to bring the community together and raise more than $2,000 for the Student Assistance Fund. Special thanks to all who attended or otherwise supported the evening!
