One man held a knife on the clerk while the other cleaned out the cash register Jan 9 at 5:50 p.m. at Avian Cleaners on North San Antonio Road in Los Altos.

The cleaners' employee, Attya Nawid, said two black men came into the shop in the morning and asked about cleaning prices and if Nawid worked alone. They told her they would be back that evening with their dry cleaning.

They came back but brought a knife instead of laundry.

"One pushed me into the back of the store," Nawid said. "He took my two rings, my watch. The other pushed all the buttons on the cash register, got it open and cleaned it out of money."

After the robbers left, Nawid ran next door to Second Cup Cafe. The owner called the police.

A police artist is preparing a sketch of the robbers, said Los Altos Police Sgt. Bob Lacey.
