Boys in the fifth and sixth grade are invited to do more than watch television or play video games by becoming a Boy Scout.

Boy Scout Troop 30 of Los Altos is inviting interested boys and their parents to a meeting on Feb. 14 at 7:30 p.m. at the Christ Episcopal Church on Border Road to find out what being a scout is really about.

Troop 30 focuses on skill development, advancement and merit badges. For 37 years, this troop has produced approximately 60 Eagle Scouts and will have five more by the end of this year. The troop meets every Wednesday from 7:30-8:30 p.m. during the school year. During the summer, there is a camp in the high Sierra mountains for two weeks.

Sponsored by the Christ Episcopal Church, Troop 30 not only earns merit badges but also volunteer their time and efforts for community needs.

Yearly dues are approximately $50, but each event has additional costs for expenses. The scouts range in age from 11-18. For more information, call Richard Johnson at 948-7836.
