Hilde J. Leopold

Hilde J. Leopold died in her home in Los Altos Feb. 17. She was 89.

A native of Limborg, Germany, she was educated and trained as a kindergarten teacher. During the early years of the Holocaust, she was sent by her father to England where she was employed as a governess. After one year, she was allowed to immigrate to the United States.

Miss Leopold taught at the Presidio Hills School in San Francisco and attended Mills College, where she received a master's degree. She moved to Mountain View in 1951 and taught kindergarten and first grade until 1974.

She was active in civic and cultural affairs, the American Association of University Women and the League of Women Voters. She helped establish the Children's Corner day care center in Los Altos. She lived in Los Altos for many years.

She is survived by her nephews Julian A. Leopold and Bruce A. Leopold, and a niece, Alice B. Leopold.

Memorial services were held Feb. 19 at Spangler's Mortuary in Los Altos.
