Panel to discuss racism in forum at Foothill Colleg

eTown Crier Staff ReportA panel of guests will join keynote speaker Jewelle Gibbs, M.S.W., Ph.D. in discussing the ways all of us are responsible for eliminating racism in ourselves and our society in a forum 4-6 p.m. Sunday at Foothill College in Los Altos Hills.The NAACP is joining up with Hidden Villa of Los Altos to sponsor the community forum titled "Alliances Against Racism" to address the question, "What are you doing about racism?" Following the discussion there will be a patron's reception with the speakers held at Hidden Villa.Gibbs is a professor in the School of Social Welfare at the University of California at Berkeley. She is a licensed clinical psychologist with expertise in psychosocial problems of adolescents and social and mental health issues of low-income and minority populations. Many books, articles and essays have been authored by Gibbs on the issue of race and adolescents. Along with Gibbs, a group of panelists will also discuss the racism issue. Panelists include: Thomas Pamilla, executive director of the Mountain View-Los Altos community services, Hedy Chang, co-executive director of California Tomorrow; Claire Mack, community affairs director at KCSM radio; and Ephraim Margolin, Esq., former president of the Jewish Community Relations Council.Hidden Villa Ranch, located at 26870 Moody Road, was bought by Josephine and Frank Duveneck in 1924 because they felt it had a special spirit. The Duvenecks lived and worked at Hidden Villa for more than 50 years and in that time they opened their gates to all kinds of people. The Alliances Against Racism forum is one in a series of Hidden Villa's 50th anniversary series of community forums running through April. A patron's reception will follow the discussion at Hidden Villa.General admission tickets are $10 in advance and $15 at the door.
