Pettingill appointed Kaiser hospital executive

Richard Pettingill, former Camino Healthcare and El Camino Hospital chief executive, has been appointed vice president and area manager for Kaiser-Permanente health maintenance organization.Pettingill will manage Kaiser hospitals in San Francisco, South San Francisco, San Rafael and Santa Rosa, and supervise Kaiser physician offices in Marin County.Kaiser is restructing operations to cut costs and merging HMOs in several Bay Area regions. During Pettingill's tenure with El Camino, he supervised the merger between the hospital and two physician groups, Sunnyvale Medical Group and Shoreline Medical Group. The present district board has filed suit claiming a conflict of interest over the transfer. The board also has objected to the $27 million for the assets and real estate.
