Los Altos resident Sean Devlin, an eighth grade studentat St. Simon School in Los Altos, was among the 15 students recentlynamed Sacred Heart Prep Scholars by the Atherton school's admissionscommittee.

Sacred Heart Prep Scholars are chosen on the basis of academicexcellence, determined by grades, test scores and teacher recommendations.Sacred Heart Prep has enrolled 110 students for the incoming freshmanclass. The marks the largest freshman class in the school's 99-yearhistory.

Catherine DeBoni of Los Altos has been named to the Dean'sList at the University of Washington for Winter Quarter of the1995-96 academic year.

To qualify for the Dean's List, a student must be taking at least12 graded credits and have a grade point average of at least 3.5.

Alice Dawson, a 1993 graduate of Los Altos High School,has been cast in the musical "Quilters," by Molly Newmanand Barbara Damashek, performed by the Backstage Theater of Breckenridge,Colo.

Dawson, a junior at the University of Colorado's College of Music,won third place in the Colorado/Wyoming N.A.T.S. finals plus afirst place prize of $1,800 for the University of Colorado's UndergraduateAnderson Voice Competition.

Her singing began at the Los Altos High School music department,under the direction of Mark Shaull, and was a member of the MainStreet Singers. Dawson was awarded a full scholarship to attendthe University of Colorado as a vocal performance major and hopesto pursue an opera career after further study.

Los Altos resident Emily Dina Holzberg has be named tothe deans list at the University of Oregon for her academic achievement.Holzberg is a junior psychology major.

To qualify for the lists, students must be in good academic standingand must have completed 12 or more graded credits for the term.The required minimum grade point average is 3.75.

Scott Peterson of Los Altos will attend the National ComputerCamp at Santa Clara University this summer. Peterson is a 12-year-oldSt. Nicholas student.

The National Computer Camp was the first computer camp, establishedin 1978. The coed camp is for children ages 8 to 18, of all levelsof experience from novice to advanced. The campers will enjoysmall group instruction on Apple and IBM computers for ample hands-onexperience. In addition, NCC offers sports and recreation includingswimming and tennis.

Purdue University of Indiana will award honorary doctoral degreesto 15 people during May commencement ceremonies at their campuses.Dennis L. Carter, of Mountain View, received his doctorof science degree on May 11 at a ceremony on Purdue's West Lafayettecampus.

Carter is a vice president of Intel Corporation and director ofcorporate marketing, responsible for the firm's marketing communications,advertising, public relations, the Intel Inside® program,and corporate and end-user marketing programs. He was named Top100 Marketer and Power 50 Marketer by Advertising Age magazinein 1992 and 1995.

Kate Lombardi of Los Altos Hills will perform in MenloSchool's production of "Me and My Girl," at 8 p.m. onSaturday and Sunday, May 24, 25, and 26.. It will be performedoutdoors on the Douglass Hall Lawn and tickets are $7 each. Thepublic is encouraged to bring picnics and blankets.

Charles Lunsford Withers, son of Mr. and Mrs. John P.Withers of Los Altos, was on of 12 seniors to be inductedinto the Cum Laude Society in recent ceremonies at Woodberry ForestSchool in Virginia.

The Cum Laude Society, the high school counterpart of Phi BetaKappa, recognizes intellectual achievement and is based entirelyon academic standing. Students in the top 15 percent of the seniorclass and those in the top 5 percent of the junior class are eligiblefor membership.
