TC reporter wins top writing award

Town Crier Staff Report

Town Crier staff writer Joanne GriffithDomingue won the top award for column writing in the annual newswriting and photo contest for 1995 sponsored by the CaliforniaIntercollegiate Press Association.

CIPA presented first prize to Domingue for best opinion column,one she wrote while she was executive editor of the Spartan Dailynewspaper at San Jose State University during the spring semesterof 1995.

Domingue also received a second prize for the best newspapersports feature.

In the awards announced recently in Irvine, other columnistwinners included writers from The Daily Californian at the Universityof California at Berkeley, The Daily Aztec at San Diego Stateand the Daily Bruin at the University of California at Los Angeles.

In Domingue's winning column she wrote about her daughter's searchfor her birth mother. The sport's feature, "Speed City,"chronicled the decline of track and field at San Jose State.
