Jaws of life can't help auto crash victim

A Mountain View man died after a singlecar accident in Los Altos May 22.

Raul Romero Velasco, 40, was driving his 1965 blue Ford Mustangwhen he apparently blacked out near San Antonio Road and PineLane, said Los Altos Police Capt. Jerry Little.

Velasco's car hit an olive tree and flipped over, trapping Velascoinside.

Police found the car at 8:48 p.m. Firefighters used the jaws oflife to cut off the roof of the car before they could get Velascoout. He complained of chest pains and shortness of breath to theparamedics, and said he had been seeing a doctor for the chestpains, Little said.

Before Velasco could be transported to El Camino Hospital, hewent into full cardiac arrest. He was pronounced dead upon arrivalat the hospital.

It has not been determined if a heart attack caused the accidentor if the accident caused the heart failure, said a police spokesman.

The coroner's office has not yet completed its investigation.
