SUPER SAVER: Los Altos native Cara Vas Dias, goalkeeperfor the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps water polo team in Southern California,recently notched a spot on the Collegiate II National All-TournamentTeam. Vas Dias' team placed second at this month's national competitionin Evanston, Ill. She will be a junior next year at Claremont-McKennaCollege.

YANKS UNDEFEATED: The Los Altos-Los Altos Hills Yankees,a junior league baseball team, are currently 17-0 against the11 other clubs they play from Cupertino, Santa Clara, Sunnyvaleand Los Altos. The 13-year-olds are: Andy Barnekoff, ColbyCalonica, Jay Danforth, Jeff Dralla, Daniel Hoffman, Matt Kramer,Jeff LaBoskey, Justin Osborne, Ronnie Remmel, David Rodoni, AdamSollers, Brett Sollers, Justin Sugimoto, Bobby Templin andTom West.

SOFTBALL SCENE: Two former Los Altos High softball playerswere a hit at San Jose State University this season. Junior ValerieQuintero batted .332 with a conference-leading eight triples,was named the Spartans' most valuable player and received theArthur Ashe and Ron Diridian scholarship awards. And SJSU defensiveplayer of the year honors went to freshman Kara Kanney.

FLYING HIGH: The Charlotte Eagles of the United StatesInterregional Soccer League will kick off a clinic for childrenages 6-14 from 5-8 p.m. Friday at Cupertino Junior High. Hostedby Missionary Athletes International and First Baptist Churchof Los Altos, the event will include individual skill work andsmall-sided games. "Our emphasis is with the local church.We want our programs to benefit churches here in the United Statesas well as around the world," said Tim Conrad, MAI founderand producer of the Eagle tour. Cost is $5 per child. To register,call 948-5698.
