City Attorney Sandy Sloan introduced an amendment to the Solid Waste Ordinance that no longer requires mandatory solid waste collection. The council also discussed the mandatory baseline or universal service. No changes were made to this program which includes four cleanup days per year, the yard waste center, recycling, household hazardous materials pickups, roadside and creek side cleanups and compliance with state requirements. LAH council seats open The Los Altos Hills City Council has approved a resolution calling for a general municipal election to be held Nov. 5 to elect three council members. Nomination period for this election is July 15 to August 9. Nomination packets will be available July 15. The seats of three council members, Bill Siegel, Elayne Dauber and Robert Johnson, are up for election. Girl raped in Los Altos At a small Los Altos party near the Mountain View border, a 19-year-oldboy allegedly raped a 14-year-old girl, Los Altos police learnedJune 11. The girl was intoxicated, she passed out, and she woke up duringthe rape, said Los Altos Police Sgt. Bob Lacey. Four months elapsed before she told a counselor who reported theincident to police. "The suspect was known to others at the party," Laceysaid. An investigation is under way, and "we will solve it,"he said. Juvenile rape in Los Altos is rare, Lacey said. There is aboutone case per year. "But it points out the dangers of juvenile alcohol parties,"Lacey said. "She passed out, she was drunk, inside a housewith no adults present." |
