To wrap up the championship, the Blues scored six runs in the top of the first inning and stayed in control the whole way. The team allowed an average of one run per inning for the tournament.SOCCER SCHOLAR: Philipp Wilson of Los Altos recently graduated from Northfield Mount Hermon School, an independent, college-preparatory school in Northfield, Mass. Also a member of the varsity soccer team, Wilson will attend Lehigh University in the fall. BIG TIMER: Joe Schram, Los Altos resident and St. Simon School eighth-grade boys basketball coach, recently caught the eye of "Sports Illustrated." Schram, 65, is featured in the popular magazine's Faces in the Crowd section in the June 24 issue for winning his 1,000th game for the school since 1964. The Town Crier told Schram's story in its March 6 issue. AWESOME A'S: Los Altos American Little League's A's slugged its way to first place in the farm division. They are: Gregory Casciaro, Brian Chang, Scott Dawes, Devin Draper, Alex Elledge, Tyler Gloski, Troy Hartter, Adam Lanthier, Spencer Lee, Andrew Sangster, Trever Treadwell and Christopher Yuschak. HEAVY HITTERS: Los Altos-based Griffin Volleyball Club has two age 18-and-under teams and one 16-and-under squad competing in the boys Junior Olympics National Championships today through Sunday at San Jose's Convention Center and Civic Auditorium. On the girls side, Griffin sent age 18, 16 and 14 teams to last weekend's J.O.s in San Jose, which culminated with yesterday's finals. Check next week's issue for results. |
